廖 智 新
ANGUS | ZHIXIN LIAO

CURRICULUM VITAE

born in Guangzhou in 1990, is a multi-disciplinary artist currently based in Brussels, Rotterdam, and Guangzhou. His art delves into the intersections of personal experiences, global identity, and the material world. Liao's work is a search for the interval separating perception and site-specific contexts, often delving into situational, political, and metaphorical layers. His exploration is informed by various field studies where misunderstanding and obscurity emerge as unintentional yet inevitable factors.

Liao is currently slated to participate in various European artist projects, including the SAFFCA (Southern African Fellowship for Contemporary Art) project in La Cambre Brussels, Greylight Projects in Heerlen & Borderland Residencies(current), Vincent van Gogh House AiR(2024) in Zundert, and the EX PRESSO residency in Roma. His recent exhibitions encompass "If my wisdom teeth are the compass" at AN-Gallerie Ningbo(2023), "EXODUS" at the Amsterdam Bijbels Museum in collaboration with Buitenplaats Doornburgh(2023), and "A Glittering Ruin Sucked Upwards" at Gosset Brussels(2022). He notably spent 2021-2022 as a laureate resident at Belgium's HISK. He has garnered support and accolades, including the Pictoright Steunfonds in 2022, the Encouragement Prize from BRUTUS in 2020, and the Jong Talent Artists prize from the Mondriaan Fund from 2019 to 2020.
