CURRICULUM VITAE


Zhixin Angus Liao is a multi-disciplinary artist currently based and work in Rotterdam, Brussels and sometimes in Guangzhou. He completed his MFA at Guangxi Arts University (CN) in 2016 and earned an MA in Painting from the Frank Mohr Institute (NL) in 2018. From 2021 to 2022, he was a laureate resident at HISK--Hoger Instituut Voor Schone Kunsten (BE). Liao's diverse work spans videos, images, installations, and paintings, exploring the intersections of personal experiences, ideally global identity, and the material world. 


Liao has recently participated in residencies such as the C. Rockefeller Center for the Contemporary Arts (2025) in Dresden, Vincent van GoghHuis AiR (2024) in Zundert, Greylight Projects Heerlen X Borderland Residencies (2023-2024), and the SAFFCA.EU studio project (2023-2024) at La Cambre Brussels. His upcoming residency and exhibition are scheduled for 2026 at the Suriname Tembe Art Studio. Recent exhibitions include venues like ABBY Kortrijk Museum (BE), Sammlung Philara Museum (DE), Maison des Arts (BE), Moezeum Rotterdam (NL), StadsGalerij Breda (NL), and Amsterdam Bijbels Museum x Buitenplaats Doornburgh (NL). Liao has been recognized with awards, including the Pictoright Steunfonds (2022), the Encouragement Prize from BRUTUS (2020), and support from the Mondriaan Fund's Jong Talent Artists Prize (2019-2021), Goethe-Institut Netherlands (2025) for his projects.
