I have a commitment exhibition in Dec 2022 in the Brussels Gosset building, the former cigarette factory. So I visited different archives and libraries in Belgium, including La Fonderie (Brussel’s Museum of Industry and Labour), to research the Gosset building. It also was the first time I came into contact with the history of the Gosset cigarette company and their St-Michel tobacco brand through the archive left by the defunct Fonds Gosset, which used to manage the information about this company’s history. However, through this experience, I learned that they are in the process of sorting out their documentation and are still years away from completing this task.
Therefore, I requested authorization to work as a volunteer assistant archiver in La Fonderie’s library. The scope of the work would assist the librarian and documentalist in sorting through the 94+1 boxes of files that compose the archives left by the Fonds Gosset to reclassify, re-check the condition of, and re-label its contents.
